Operation, 'Manual Clear-up!'

The clear-up of the cores ejected from the greens is completed by hand.

We were blessed with dry-weather for the duration of our work with heavy equipment so this manual-handling operation was straightforward, clean and tidy.

This photo offers an indication of the cleanliness of the hollow-coring activity.  By getting the gearing, engine-revs and forward-speed of the tractor-unit set-up appropriately we guaranteed the smooth operation of the hollow-tines.

Alongside a £1-coin there is evidence of an adequate spacing and clean holes with no plucking, tears, or otherwise disturbed putting surface.

With cores and debris cleared away the smooth machinery operation is revealed
The next stage of the operation is to start slinging sand everywhere and compliment this with applications of seaweed soil-builders, seed and an organic early-season granular fertiliser . . . . . .

Pam Barton course-renovations. Spring 2013

This week commencing the 4th March we are focused on Pam Barton course greens renovations.

Our tool of choice this week is the 1.6-metre verti-drain configured with the biggest hollow-tines available!

These are 1-1/4 inch diameter, 12 inch long tines and they are set-up to core-out to full depth going straight in and out with no heave.

Course operations starting this morning were hampered for the first hour or so by frost.

When we did get going the greens were verticut in a variety of directions as the lead-out operation in advance of the hollow-coring.

The Pam Barton will be the our one 18-hole course for the membership for 13-months from June whilst the JHTaylor is refurbished.

To see the Pam Barton course sustain this increased golf-traffic we need to put guarantees in the ground for healthy rootzones.

Once the foundations are in place of a decompacted, well-aerated and healthy growing medium we can then work at building robust and wear tolerant playing surfaces.

now to call for small teams of greenkeepers fitted with shovels, brooms and backpack blowers!!
